Proulx Sugarbush
Sugar shack close by
Located on the outskirts of Orleans, the
Proulx Sugarbush is a convenient stop for city dwellers
looking to experience a spring-time tradition. The Proulx
Sugarbush is just 5 km east of Orleans and is a family-run
operation. Francois Proulx is the third-generation of
his family to tap the trees
on their property. His grandfather built the first sugar
shack on site in the 1930s. In fact, that building still
stands today and houses the evaporator. Of course the
operation has grown immensely since those days and now
includes a large hall that can seat about 150 people.

Harvest
time creates fun family memories
Harvest time is in full swing in the east end, with
some area farms offering a chance for local residents
to be part of the crop-gathering fun. For Proulx Farm
in Cumberland, the harvest season traditionally means
a free-for-all U-pick pumpkin patch as part of their
Halloween extravaganza. October

Local sellers label
farmers' market a success
With a chill now on the air and the leaves slowly turning,
summer’s conclusion signalled another end for
east-end residents this past weekend, as Cumberland’s
Farmers’ Market wrapped up its first full season
in operation. As a local farmer, market vendor Gisele
Proulx of Proulx Farm says her presence each Saturday
morning served as a reminder for both area residents
and repeat customers of the farm and what they offer.

Sweet
times on O'Toole Road
Asked what she likes about her job, Giséle Proulx
skips not a beat. "Me, I like dealing with people.
I like to talk about what I do, what I love. "Lucky
lady, because there's no shortage of customers, or the
occasional newspaper columnist, curious about Proulx
Sugar Bush, the business Giséle operates with
her husband François at 1865 O'Toole Rd. in Cumberland.
